Blog #001 – The Old Guy Story – How we Got to Here ??

Hey Team …. I am Jeff (aka Coach Jeff) …. a 65 year old guy embarking on an adventure to race my BMX bike.

After what seems a lifetime of riding and racing my road bike, track bike and mountain bike …. it seemed like a good time to jump onto a BMX bike and have a crack at racing my little BMX beast. I first threw my leg over a bike at the age of 5 years old, wayyyy back in 1962, so my 60 year anniversary of riding is as good a time as any to change it up and go BMX racing.

You can listen to the audio version  of my Riding and BMX history in Parts  #002 and #003 of The Old Guy BMX Podcast.

In 2020 I first ventured the idea of BMX racing, but a combination of the Worldwide Covid Pandemic and trying to find a club to race with, saw things go onto the backburner until the early days of 2022.  Early in 2022 I reached out to  a local BMX club who responded and put me in touch with their club coach who was more than happy to help an “old guy” get up and running with his “BMX career”

Next up was finding the right BMX bike and making decisions on riding 20″ or 24″ …. getting a new bike or ride one of my old bikes already in the shed ??

The whole 20″ v 24″ would chew up a few hours over the coming weeks and the debate would rage on for a bit.

Next up ….. some decisions made and the training starts
